Acts

Read: Acts 21:1-15; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22; 2 Corinthians 5:8;

Open group time with silence and listening prayer, inviting everyone to ask the Holy Spirit to bring to light what He desires to reveal.

  • (Listening Prayer Instructions: Begin by reading 2 Corinthians 3:18 out loud. Set a timer for 2 minutes and sit in silence as a group. Quietly say phrases individually like “here I am” or come “Holy Spirit” and focus your attention on the Father’s presence.)
  • “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
  1. Follow up from last week: How was your time in the secret place? What was good? What was hard? What was uncomfortable?
  2. DISCUSS: “The greatest idol of the middle class is self preservation.”
  • What specific fears in your life conflict with the call to follow Christ's example of self-sacrifice?
  • Where have you seen the idol of self-preservation play out in your walk with the Lord?
  1. What could move you from loving God to also trusting God today? How is just loving God for who He is different than also trusting God with your life?
  2. Share personal experiences of how the longing for a heavenly home can be a source of strength in times of trial and suffering.
  3. CHALLENGE: Spend time asking the Lord to search your heart and reveal the areas of your life that you have not entrusted to Him. What do you need to surrender to Jesus and what do you feel called to recommit to Him?
